Robots
Team Hydra competes across the main fighting robots categories (antweight, featherweight and heavyweight). We have six team members and to make sure that everyone gets enough time driving at events we need to make sure we have enough robots.

Antweights
At the moment we have one antweight (Boo!) which is a nasty little spinner. We have the parts for a few more antweights which will be built when we get the time to do it.
Antweights are for fun and something that can be driven virtually anywhere so we’re keen to get these up and running so we can get a lot more regular driving practice.
Featherweights
Currently we have two featherweights (Cylon and BOOM!). Cylon has an electric lifter and BOOM! is a push bot.
Whilst these are fun little robots we’re looking at a few more competetive robots. At Aylesbury we tried out Fireman Sam which is an electric axe robot we’re working on. Unfortunately it fell apart so we need to take it back to the drawing board and beef it up a bit. Hopefully it’ll be ready for the autumn. We’ve got some nice LED flashing lights for it and a whooping siren so it should be fun.
Heavyweights
The heavyweights we have are Hydra, SMIDSY and Wheely Big Cheese. Hydra has an axe and a flipper, SMIDSY has an electric lifter and Wheely Big Cheese is a flipper.
Hydra has been running for about a year now and SMIDSY will have its first outing at Guildford 2009. These are a great pair of robots which will get Colin and Luke (our drivers) some much needed experience in the arena.
Wheely Big Cheese is being rebuilt at the moment and we hope to have this running for January 2010 but it will be on display at events up till then.
