Roaming Robots Guildford

The 2008 Roaming Robots, Guildford event was a nightmare for Team Hydra as far as our own robots were concerned. After some work on hydra, there were persistent receiver problems which meant that it didn’t run. BOOM! having just been built had some technical issues and Cylon lasted two fights.

During the last show was the Tanja Smith Memorial Fight. This is a fight for roboteers who are under sixteen in memory of a much loved roboteer who tragically died in a road traffic accident.

The fight is for roboteers who are under sixteen and they must not drive their own robot. The colour of the day is pink and any robot which competes must be sporting pink colours.

Luke was driving Mini Mighty Mouse (Owned by Trevor of Team Mouse) the 2007 UK featherweight champion.

The fight started and Luke took a very agressive approach getting in some effective flips and surviving attacks from Beauty 2 amongst others. During one attack Mini Mighty Mouse came into collided with Major Damage and got pulled up into its tracks, stopping Major Damage in the process.

The fight had to be stopped to seperate Major Damage and Mini Mighty Mouse, it took the entire Roaming Robots crew to get them apart but once they were seperated we were off again.

With only a few robots left in the fight Andy and Trevor realised that there was a chance of winning it. Luke carried on his agressive fighting and gave Trevor and Andy a few scares by driving very close to the pit but we held on until cease was called.

With only three robots left in it we had an agonising wait and then it came “The winner is………………Mini Mighty Mouse!”

The team were very pleased and very proud to win this trophy. Pleased because it was our first trophy and very proud because of what the trophy means to the roboteering community.
