The Roaming Robots Barnsley event was the first event of the year and the start of the 2010 UK championships. We went to the event with neither Hydra or Dantomkia finished in the hope that we would be able to pick up a few points. We didn’t think any of the robots there could particularly damage us so we decided to risk putting in two unfinished robots.
UK Championship Fights
Dantomkia
This was the first fight Dantomkia had had since we bought it. The ram had been re-fitted the night before and the electrics wired up around it so we were holding out much hope of beating the 2008 UK champions Iron Awe 5. Our chances got worse when it was overweight and we had to drop virtually all the gas to make the weight so we had no weapons either.
Colin and Paul weren’t at the event so we borrowed Liam from Team Bud to drive for us. Considering there were problems with the drive and the assault from Iron Awe 5 he did very well. Three points in the bag because Pressure didn’t make it to the event so forfieted.
Hydra
Hydra’s UK champioship fight was against Ripper and Apocalypse. Luke wanted to beat Apocalypse after it threw him out in 28 seconds in the 2008 UK championship (not that he holds a grudge or anything). We were up against two very powerful full pressure flippers and we knew the flipper wasn’t going to work.
Luke decided on a very defensive approach, making both of them attack from the front and making sure he didn’t get flipped because it’d be game over. Fortunately Ripper had to drop some gas prior to the fight to make the weight and then it had a gas leak but it was still a very dangerous machine.
It wasn’t the most interesting of fights but it got the job done and got three points in the bag (second despite what it says at the end of the video). Just unfortunate that we didn’t go for an all out win after we knocked out Apocalypse but there ya go!!
Whiteboards
